Shannon Woods is a software developer in the Washington, DC metro area. She currently works in the games industry.

Shannon has worked for the past nine years in both the commercial games and defense industry arenas to create game portability tools, web graphics enablement layers, 3D graphics real-time distributed simulations, wargames, and training applications for land and sea. She has been an active participant in all stages of the development life cycle, as well as in the creation and selection of processes for efficient team development.

Shannon participated in development of the ANGLE project, a standards-conformant implementation of the OpenGL ES 2.0 specification via Direct3D 9, currently used as the WebGL backend for both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox on Windows.

Core technical knowledge and skills include:

  • C++, including the Standard Template Library and the Boost libraries
  • ANSI C, Perl, Python, Lua, and Scheme
  • OpenGL, OpenGL ES, GLSL, Cg, OpenGL Performer, and OpenSceneGraph
  • Direct3D 9 and beyond, including HLSL
  • Development experience with gcc on Red Hat/Fedora Core Linux and Mac OS X, and Visual Studio on Windows
